Protagonist Wins Phase II SBIR Contract to Develop NECD Capabilities
July 7th, 2020
San Francisco, CA – Protagonist is proud to announce that it has been awarded a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract from the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) and AFWERX. Under this contract, Protagonist will pilot its Narrative-Based Emergent Crisis Detection (NECD) capability, which predicts emergence of political crises and civil disturbances in countries of interest. The project falls under a US Air Force focus area related to Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning dual use technologies.
Protagonist COO, Bryan Pelley, said: “We’re excited to continue to adapt our Narrative Analytics® platform for predictive analytics and to continue our mission-focused work with the Air Force and DOD as a whole.”
AFRL and AFWERX have partnered to streamline the Small Business Innovation Research process in an attempt to speed up the experience, broaden the pool of potential applicants and decrease bureaucratic overhead. Beginning in SBIR 18.2, and now in 20.R, the Air Force has begun offering ‘Special’ SBIR topics that are faster, leaner and open to a broader range of innovations.
